We’ve all heard crazy claims of beauty myths, but can we believe them? Are they true? Heres some of your top myths busted in beauty & makeup!

Myth 1: “I don’t Need Sunscreen in the winter time or when it’s cloudy!”

A: Wrong! Did you know that UV(ultra violet rays) are even stronger when it’s cloudy outside? Believe it, we don’t feel the typical burn but it still damages our skin significantly. Although the name “sunscreen” can be deceiving you shouldn’t just wear a moisturizer with SPH when the sun is shining bright, since UVA and UVB rays can still peak its ugly head on our skin.

Myth 2: “Drinking tons of water will make my skin gorgeous”

A: Although water DOES wash toxins out, anything taken in excess can never be a good thing. It will most likely leave you bloated and taking several annoying trips to the bathroom. However, water does help the skins texture – but no need to go overboard and drink 3 gallons a day! Skin guru, Jamuna Pai states, “”Water helps flushing out the toxins from our body, but one need not go overboard. It’s a good idea to go on a Detox program once in a week where you should ideally consume 4-5 litres of water and this can include a liquid diet of vegetable and fruit juices. When you are eating wrong, doing no exercise etc, then there can be radical damage that causes ageing and disease, as it is thinning the collagen in our skin, so the water enters the body only in a limited quantity,”.

Myth 3: “Use Cocoa Butter to stop stretch marks”

A: Although Cocoa Butter helps soften the skin, it is NOT good enough for stretch marks. Fact is that our skin is in layers and stretch marks develop deep within these layers so in order to “eliminate” the marks you’ll need something a little deeper than good old cocoa butter..

Myth 4: “All beauty products are FDA approved”

A: Nope their not. Many cosmetic users have no idea that beauty products are NOT subjected to tough federal standards. An average adult is EXPOSED to over 100 chemicals in personal care products EVERDAY and they do add up. To make a long story short – The US has NO AUTHORITY to require tests..scary huh?

Myth 5: “Shaving your legs will make your hair grow back thicker”

A: This is partially true. Shaving your legs will not change the actual thickness of the hair BUT it will make it appear thicker/stubbier.

Myth 6: “Cucumbers prevent eyebags”

A: True, but its only TEMPORARY. Under eye bags are caused by fluid retention and it shows more because the skin under our eyes is actually much thinner than the rest of our skin areas. Cucumbers cool the area allowing reducution to the amount of capillary activity.

Myth 7: “If its more expensive, its better”

A: Wrong. Although good ingredients come at a price, only YOU know what works for you. Become your own skin expert. Take note of how your skin reacts to certain ingredients and don’t be shy to ask someone at a counter for samples – that’s what their there for!

Myth 8: “Pinch your cheeks instead of using blush”

A: This works but it can cause alot of damage. Doing this repeatedly will actually break the capillaries and will leave your skin looking blotchy. Try getting a facial instead. This will allow blood to circulate and will give you a natural flush and being relaxed afterwards is always a good thing
